Implementation of Severe Accident Countermeasures

In light of the"Technical Knowledge about the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Accidents (Summary)" published by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (as known then) in March 2012, Chubu Electric Power has pursued an examination of severe accident countermeasures. This is to announce our decision to implement the following measures.
1. Measures to prevent a large-scale discharge of radioactive materials
2. Measures to prevent damage to the containment vessel
3. Measures for emergency direct-current power source
Details are as given in the attachment.
Construction for these measures is anticipated to take about two to three years.
Chubu Electric Power will engage all its resources in the sure and steady effort to further enhance the safety of Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station. We are also committed to providing detailed explanations of the substance of those efforts in order to contribute to the peace of mind of local residents and society at large.
