Details of Report to Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Concerning Power Supply and Demand Outlook for Summer FY2013

April 09, 2013
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

In response to an order for reports from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (issued on April 05, 2013), Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. has today reported its supply and demand outlook for summer FY2013 to the Ministry.

(1)Peak load at generating end

We reported 25,850 MW as the one-time peak load during the hottest part of summer FY2013 (calculated on the assumption that it would be about the same as the heat wave of FY2010).

This number was derived based on a questionnaire survey that we had just taken as instructed by the national government. We forecast that energy conservation would be about 1,090 MW this summer and assumed that average demand for the three days of highest demand would be 25,040 MW. Then, we corrected the effects of heat waves, etc., and converted the number to one-time peak load.

(2) Supply capacity at generating end

We reported 28,220 MW as the supply capacity in our service area in August 2013 (see Note 1).

This figure reflects supplementing electric power of 1,080 MW (see Note 2), or power that we will provide upon request from other electric power companies that foresee supply shortages, as long as we have the supply capacity to ensure a stable supply in the Chubu Region. The number is also the result of the start of commercial operation of Joetsu Thermal Power Station Unit No. 2-1 (output: 595 MW), which is scheduled for July this year, continued operation of older thermal power facilities, and other factors.

(Note 1) Assuming that our nuclear power facilities do not resume operation. Includes emergency increases in output from thermal power stations.

(Note 2) Amount of supplementing electric power during weekday daytime hours in August 2013.

(3) Supply and demand outlook this summer

Our outlook shows that Chubu Electric Power will have the reserve margin used as an indicator of supply stability throughout summer FY2013.

Looking ahead, the national government's Supply and Demand Verification Committee will be verifying the supply and demand outlook for the entire nation. Chubu Electric Power will announce its final supply and demand outlook promptly after the national government completes verification.

Chubu Electric Power will continue to consistently conduct prioritized inspections and maintenance of our power stations and transmission and substation facilities to ensure a stable supply of electricity to our customers.
