Regarding the License Application for Changes to Power Reactor Facilities for the Construction of the Spent Fuel Dry Storage Facility at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station

January 26, 2015
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

On December 22, 2008, Chubu Electric Power announced construction plans for a spent fuel dry storage facility at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station* (hereinafter referred to as "dry storage facilities"), with changes to the plans announced later on July 31, 2014. Since then, we have been moving forward with preparations for the license application for changes to power reactor facilities.

Today, we would like to announce that the application has been submitted to the Nuclear Regulation Authority. With this application, we have included the addition of matters related to dry storage facilities in the license application for changes to power reactor facilities related to the review of compliance of Hamaoka Power Station Unit 4 with new regulatory requirements already applied for on February 14, 2014.

*Spent fuel dry storage facility: Facility that stores radiation shielding containers called metal casks, which contain spent fuel that has been chilled for over ten years in the fuel pool. The casks are cooled with natural air circulation until they are unloaded at a reprocessing facility.

We will respond diligently to the results of the review by the Nuclear Regulation Authority, sparing no effort to ensure that we are recognized as being in compliance with the new regulatory requirements as early as possible.

We will make efforts to steadily progress with the dry storage facility construction plans, aiming for a start of operation in FY2018.
