Detection of Soil Contaminant on the Grounds of Taketoyo Thermal Power Plant

December 21, 2015
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Chubu Electric Power detected, within the grounds of its Taketoyo Thermal Power Plant, boron levels exceeding the standard value prescribed by the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Act ("the Act"). The company would like to announce that it accordingly filed a survey analysis/assessment report today to Aichi Prefecture, on the premise of the Ordinance on Maintaining the Living Environment of Aichi Prefecture Residents.

Taketoyo Thermal Power Plant is scheduled to undergo a replacement plan, in which its Units 1-4 will be demolished and have Unit 5 newly constructed.) .

Chubu Electric Power conducted a voluntary soil survey in a run-up to this demolition work, and as a result detected boron levels exceeding the standard value prescribed by the Act.

Given that the boron levels were beyond soil elution standards, Chubu Electric Power carried out a groundwater survey, but the boron measurement detected in this examination was comparable to that of seawater. The company therefore concluded that human health will not be affected by the boron.

Chubu Electric Power will proceed with the demolition work upon taking proper countermeasures based on related laws and regulations.
