Changes to Low-Level Radioactive Waste Transportation Date

March 20, 2018

Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Efforts are underway at Chubu Electric Power to transport the low-level radioactive waste stored in Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (NPS) over to the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Center of Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited, located in Rokkasho Village, Aomori. (Previously announced on March 16, 2018)

From March 19 to 20, 2018, the low-level radioactive waste was transported over land from Hamaoka NPS to a wharf exclusively used by Chubu Electric Power in the Port of Omaezaki, and was then loaded into carrier ship Seiei-Maru (hereinafter “carrier ship”). However, Chubu Electric Power announced it would delay the carrier ship’s departure date from the Port of Omaezaki because the worsening weather could undermine the ship’s safe navigation to Mutsu-Ogawara Port.
