Report to the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency on the results of the investigation on the control of pipe-thinning phenomena at nuclear and thermal power plants

In response to the pipe rupture in the secondary system of Reactor No. 3 at the Mihama Power Plant of the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., Chubu Electric Power was ordered to investigate the control of pipe-thinning phenomena at its nuclear and thermal power plants by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency on August 11.

Today, we submitted our investigative report to the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency.

The outline of the report is as follows:

1. Nuclear power plants

We confirmed that at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, pipe-thinning phenomena are controlled based on our "Guidance on wall thinning management at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station" and that all facilities are provided with thinning control and are properly managed.

2. Thermal power plants

We confirmed that in our thermal power plants, pipe-thinning phenomena are controlled based on our "Equipments and components Management Standards" and that ultrasonic testing is performed for thinning control in the facilities.
