Report to NISA on Plans to Inspect Pipes for Thinning at Thermal Power Plants (follow-up)

October 12, 2004
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

In response to the pipe rupture accident in the secondary system of Reactor No. 3 at Mihama Power Plant of Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., we were instructed by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency to report on inspections of pipes subject to thinning at thermal power plants.

In accordance with said instructions, we submitted a report to NISA on whether we perform such inspections (on August 18) and a report on our plans to inspect units that came into service 20 years or more ago (on September 13). Today, we reported on our plans to inspect units that came into service less than 20 years ago.

Here is a summary of the report:

- Summary
Concerning sections to be inspected (except for sections proved to be in good condition by the results of remaining-life assessment and inspections of representative (already-inspected) sections), we reported on our future inspection plans and measures to ensure the safety of workers until the inspections are completed, based on "Guidelines for Secondary System Pipe Thinning Control in Nuclear Facilities (PWR)."
