Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

The EcoTopia Science Institute of Nagoya University (Director-General: Tsuneo Matsui) and the Research and Development Division of Chubu Electric Power (Division Manager: Masao Shimizu, Executive Director) concluded an agreement today (Thursday, October 14, 2004) on collaboration in R&D activities. The ceremony was held at Chuden Building in Nagoya.

This agreement is intended to reinforce and promote R&D and academic research activities as well as to contribute to the nurturing of researchers and engineers through the collaboration between EcoTopia Science Institute, an interdepartmental organization of Nagoya University, and the Research and Development Division of Chubu Electric Power.

Specifically, we will work together in the following three areas:

  1. (1) Research (in collaboration or contracted out to each other) in a wide range of fields including energy, the environment, materials, and information technology

  2. (2) Exchange of information on the latest technologies, and culling research topics based on such information

  3. (3) Nurturing of researchers, engineers, and graduate students

To smoothly carry out such collaborative activities, we will establish a "Collaboration Committee" consisting of representatives from both organizations. Under this committee, we will set up technical information exchange meetings and "research teams" that carry out individual collaborative activities.

Nagoya University and Chubu Electric Power have been working together to conduct research in a number of individual fields. From this point forward, however, it will become possible for us to match the needs and technologies of both organizations to collaborate on multidisciplinary research topics under the initiative of the Collaboration Committee.

We hope to take further advantage of collaboration in research processes-for example, researchers in relevant fields from both sides may collaborate in an organized manner to proceed with research more effectively and efficiently.
