Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc., Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., Hokuriku Electric Power Company, The Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc., The Japan Atomic Power Company, Electric Power Development Co., Ltd., Toshiba Corporation and Hitachi, Ltd. have decided to establish the "Japan BWR Owners Group," with a promoters' meeting being held on January 10, 2006.
We will proceed with the preparations for establishment of the council, which is to commence in April 2006.
This council is a new round-table discussion framework for electric power companies and plant manufacturers to share information and study technical matters, in the interests of improvements to the safety and reliability of boiling water reactor (BWR) plants in Japan. Specifically, while holding a steering meeting to determine its general policies, members will share information on problems, discuss horizontal development policies, and examine common issues concerning the safety and reliability of BWRs in working groups, which are subordinate to the steering meeting.
