Loss of customer information

Chubu Electric Power has announced that some postcards containing customer information have been lost.


Chubu Electric Power offers its heartfelt apologies for this loss.


The company has explained the circumstances to the customers affected and has apologized to them.


The company is calling the attention of all employees to this case and will continue to endeavor to implement appropriate management of personal information.


1. Date loss was discovered:

Friday, January 13, 2006


2. Items lost:

13 postcards intended to inform customers of the date and time of a temporary power outage due to construction


3. Customer information lost:

The following information concerning customers in the area subject to a planned temporary power outage (Nishi-Haru-cho in the Nishi-Kasugai-gun):

(1) Address; (2) name (name on service agreement); (3) date and time of power outage; (4) customer number


4. Background:


  • • Over the two days of Wednesday, January 4 and Thursday, January 5, Chubu Electric Power completed procedures for sending postcards to customers notifying them of a planned temporary power outage.
  • • Soon after the power outage began at 1:10 p.m. on Friday, January 13, the customers concerned notified Chubu Electric Power that they had not received the postcards informing them of the power outage.
  • • From the time it ascertained these circumstances through the following day (Saturday, January 14), the company informed all 13 customers affected that it had failed to notify them of the power outage and that the personal information described above may have been disclosed, and it apologized to these customers.
  • • From Friday, January 13 through Monday, January 16, the company searched its business facilities and other locations but was unable to find the relevant postcards.
  • • On Monday, January 16, the company filed a lost-property report with the Naka police station.

  • • The company will call the attention of its employees to the importance of protecting personal information and will ensure the thorough implementation of appropriate management of personal information.
