Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
Yesterday, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) notified Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. that technical information concerning a Chubu Electric Power thermal power plant had been leaked to the Winny file-sharing network from the personal home computer of an employee of the Kawagoe branch of Chubu Electric Power affiliate Chubu Plant Service Co., Ltd., as a result of the infection of the employee's computer by a virus.
The leaked information included the form used for recording inspections of the thermoelectric power plant as well as some inspection records. It did not include any sensitive information concerning the protection of nuclear materials or information affecting customers or power supplies.
Chubu Electric Power, which has already stepped up measures to ensure thorough information controls in all its operations, views this incident with serious concern. Chubu Electric Power and its affiliates will thoroughly implement strict controls to ensure that similar incidents do not recur in the future.
Overview of the incident
An employee of a Chubu Electric Power affiliate had stored the technical information on a personal home computer on which the Winny file-sharing program had been installed. Later, when this computer was infected by a virus, the technical information stored on the computer was leaked to the Winny network.
