Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. has discovered that two forms for remitting electricity charges - forms containing customer information - have been sent in error to the wrong customers.

Chubu Electric Power offers its deepest apologies for this error, in which vital information concerning its customers was sent to the wrong parties.

It has notified those affected of the specifics of this incident and tendered its apologies to these customers.

The cause of this incident was an error in a computerized system. This error was promptly corrected.

Chubu Electric Power plans to launch an investigation to determine whether similar incidents have occurred in the past.

1. Date on which incident was discovered:

Friday, February 3, 2006

2. Customer information involved (two cases):

The information in question includes the following:
(1) customer names; (2) customer addresses; (3) customer numbers; (4) amount of electricity charges and use for affected customers (for January 2006); (5) contracted electricity usage; etc.

3. Cause:

When customers who contracted to pay electricity charges by credit card change their payment method to bank transfers by remittance forms, the remittance forms are automatically inserted into the billing envelopes by the envelope-filling system.

This incident arose when the remittance forms were enclosed in envelopes addressed to the wrong customers, due to incorrect configuration of the envelope-filling system.

4. Effects on other customers:

Chubu Electric Power plans an investigation covering the 13-month period from January 2005, when electricity charge payments were first accepted by credit card, to determine whether similar instances occurred previously.

5. Measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents:

The error in the envelope-filling system configuration has been corrected.
