Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
A simple, convenient way for obtaining a broad range of information on the user's current location via mobile phone!
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. has begun testing its Kokodenchu service, which will provide positioning information to mobile-phone Internet users.
By using their mobile phones to access the Kokodenchu Web site (http://upo.jp) and entering information such as the numbers posted on Chubu Electric Power utility poles (utility pole code), keywords, and position codes (indicating latitude and longitude), users can ascertain their current position and access maps of local areas, as well as a wide range of information on nearby shops and other facilities.
Kokodenchu is available free of charge to mobile phone and PC users. The service is intended to be useful in a wide range of situations. In addition, the service will also serve as a platform for advertising. Registration of information for public-relations or other purposes is welcome.
The system can be used in the following specific ways:
- • Checking the user's position: Kokodenchu lets users ascertain information on their current position and destination.
Users can search for locations by keyword, position code, telephone number, postal code, and other information, as well as by utility pole code. Another feature provides easy access to information on the user's current location using QR codes. - • Viewing maps: Users can view maps of the locations targeted by a search.
- • Querying and viewing information: While searching for specific locations, users will also gain access to information on nearby shops and other facilities.
- • E-mailing positioning information: Positioning information can be e-mailed - useful, for example, when meeting someone.
- • Transmitting information: Information on events, retail advertisements, and other location information from users can be transmitted through this system.
* Trial assessment period: Through March 2007 (planned)
* Trial region:
- • The service will permit search by utility pole code throughout the Chubu Electric Power service area (with certain exceptions).
- • Other search functions can be used for locations throughout Japan.
- • Content provision and display of position codes on utility poles will begin with locations inside the city of Nagoya, followed by expansion to other areas.
* Usage fees: The service may be used free of charge during the trial period. (Users will be responsible for paying the telecommunications fees charged by their respective carriers while using the service.)
