Agreement concluded on processing of MOX fuels in connection with pluthermal plans for Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant's Reactor No. 4

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. today concluded an agreement with Global Nuclear Fuel-Japan Co., Ltd. (GNF-J) on the processing of MOX fuels.
Plans call for MOX fuel production to be contracted to GNF-J following authorization of changes in the relevant nuclear-reactor equipment linked to use of MOX fuels and after the completion of related preparations, with the actual manufacture of MOX fuels taking place at COMMOX of France.
Note: The term "pluthermal" refers to the reuse as fuel in thermal reactors - the light water reactors currently in use at the nuclear power plant - of plutonium collected in the reprocessing of spent fuels from nuclear power plants, mixed with uranium.
