The ninth periodic inspection of Reactor No. 4 at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (a boiling water reactor with output rated at 1.137 million kilowatts) began on March 23, 2006. This periodic inspection is planned to take approximately four months, including adjustment operations.
In addition to testing and inspection of facilities -- including the reactor itself, reactor cooling-system equipment, reactor storage facilities, and steam turbines -- plans call for replacement during this periodic inspection of approximately 180 of the total of 764 fuel rods used at the facility.
