We approve of the purpose of the "Expo Eco-Money Project,Ewhich is being launched at the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi, Japan, and have decided to cooperate in it. This project, which was begun jointly by the Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition and an NPO called the Eco-Design Forum for Civic Society, has been participated in by an increasing number of people since the opening of the World Exposition, and has attracted a great deal of attention as a project for enhancing environmental awareness.
The Expo Eco-Money Project is a system based on awarding credit points to those who engage in environmentally friendly activities (eco activities) within and outside the Expo site. Expo Eco-Money can be exchanged for eco products or used to make donations to environmental-conservation projects such as tree-planting at the Expo Eco-Money Center within the Expo site. Expo Eco-Money points are accumulated through activities such as participating in environmental education, experiencing programs in certain pavilions, and refusing shopping-bag use at shops within and outside the Expo site.
We have decided to issue participation certificates (which can be exchanged for Expo Eco-Money) to those who register for this project and take part in activities we organize. We hope to promote environmentally friendly behavior through our participation in this project.
