Investigation of nuclear power plant location grants for fixed-rate utility charge contracts
December 1, 2005
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
An investigation concerning a customer - the city of Makinohara (formerly the town of Sagara) - that has contracted for fixed-rate utility charges under nuclear power plant location grants has shown that, due to an error on the part of Chubu Electric Power, no payments had been made. (The Center for Development of Power Supply Regions subcontracts handling of payment procedures for the nuclear power plant location grants to Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.)
Nuclear power plant location grants are paid once annually to households, businesses, and other users of Chubu Electric Power's electricity located in the municipalities in which nuclear power plants and similar facilities are located and in neighboring municipalities. They are intended to improve local business development efforts and the welfare of local residents.
Although the services eligible for these grants include, in addition to households, businesses, and other parties, fixed-rate utility charge contracts for common lighting (in corridors and public restrooms) at apartments and other facilities and electric power contracts for facilities such as water-purification tanks and water-supply pumps used in everyday living, it has been determined that payment was not being made to this customer, which uses electricity at fixed charges for a water-purification tank.
When checking customer contracts to determine whether any similar cases were present, it was determined that on-site inspections would be required in order to ascertain whether such payments were required at approximately 100 customers with fixed-rate utility charge contracts. These inspections will be conducted immediately.
Chubu Electric Power offers its heartfelt apologies to local residents and other related parties.
Notice of the results of the upcoming investigations and related handling will be made when such information is available.
