Commencement of commercial operations of Thailand's Rice Husk Power Project
- Chubu Electric Power's first biomass power project -

December 21, 2005
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

The rice husk power project in Thailand is one of Chubu Electric Power's overseas environment-related activities expected to generate carbon dioxide emission-reduction credits. The goal of this project is to build small power stations that burn rice husks in the farm belt of north central Thailand.

Today, the first of these rice husk power stations (20,000 kW output) commenced commercial operations in Pichit province (about 320 km north of Bangkok). This is our first biomass power project, either at home or abroad.

In June 2004, this project was approved as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project by the Japanese government.
We plan to obtain approval from the Thai government to ensure its certification as a CDM project by the United Nations.

We participate in power projects and environment-related ventures in Thailand, Mexico, and Qatar and intend to maintain active involvement in overseas energy projects.
