Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. is commissioned by the Center for Development of Power Supply Regions to handle payments for nuclear power plant location grants. A recent investigation has shown that due to an error on the part of Chubu Electric Power, no payments had been made to a client (in Makinohara City, formerly Sagara Town) who had contracted for fixed-rate utility charges under the nuclear power plant location grants.
An inspection of customer contracts for similar cases indicated on-site inspections would be required to ascertain whether such payments were necessary at approximately 100 sites where clients have fixed-rate utility charge contracts. We have performed these inspections. (Notification of this incident was issued on December 1, 2005.)
We determined that grants amounting to about 2,450,000 yen had yet to be paid to 20 clients (including the above-mentioned client in Makinohara City). We will contact the customers in question and make payments by the end of January 2006.
We offer our deepest apologies to the clients affected, local residents, and other affected parties.
We deeply regret this incident and plan to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
