Development of Commercial Shop Energy Management System
- Dedicated system inexpensive to implement, offers varied energy conservation support functions -

January 25, 2007
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

Chubu Electric has developed a "Commercial Shop Energy Management System" for easy energy management by businesses operating multiple shops, such as supermarkets and restaurants.

Although systems already exist that summarize energy data from each shop and display it on a PC screen, businesses operating multiple shops have needed a system that could easily and efficiently support energy conservation by centrally managing data from shops spread out geographically.

The new system, with a dedicated objective of managing energy for enterprises with multiple shops, enables users to implement it at low cost. It also offers the analysis, management and other diverse energy conservation support functions to meet customers' various needs.

< System overview >

(1) Varied energy conservation support functions

(a) Comparative display function

The system displays daily, weekly, monthly and annual data and allows comparison with other shops or past data from the same shop.

(b) Energy waste and breakdown control support function

The display shows if there is any deviation from the temperature settings or equipment operating schedule as set by the customer. If there is a deviation from the schedule or settings, the system calculates how much unnecessary energy is being used and displays it on the PC screen. With the alert function turned on, the system will display an alert screen or send alerts by email.

(c) Ranking display function

For monthly and annual data, unnecessary energy consumption can be displayed, as can a ranking of shops according to their energy consumption per customer, floor space or sales. Shops can be grouped according to building construction or other conditions and ranked within those groups.

(2) Real time data display

The shops' total electricity use, energy consumption for air conditioning, lighting, and so on, gas and water usage, and the temperature and humidity of the dining area, kitchen and so on are collected and updated every five minutes on a dedicated server through the Internet. The results can be displayed on a PC screen in graph or numeric form at the business's head office or any of its shops.

(3) Low cost system implementation

The system is inexpensive to implement because it was developed exclusively for businesses operating multiple shops.

Chubu Electric has offered this system since last September through our affiliate Chuden CTI Co., Ltd. It is currently in use in supermarkets in the Chubu region.

Chubu Electric will continue to work aggressively to support energy conservation to meet our customers' needs to reduce their energy costs.
