Schedule for Commencing Adjustment Operations
on the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactor No.5

February 7, 2007
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

Operations of the No.5 reactor at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (advanced boiling water reactor: rated electrical output 1.38 million kW) were halted on June 15th, 2006, owing to damages being discovered on the vanes of the 12th stage of the low-pressure turbine. Work to restore the turbine with a pressure plate installed has now been completed, and preparations have been initiated to restart the nuclear reactor

(already announced on February 2, 2007.)

Preparations to restart the reactor are currently underway, and if everything goes according to plan, the reactor is scheduled to be started up and adjustment operations commenced tomorrow.

Test operations will be carried out on the turbine with steam from the nuclear reactor as part of the adjustment operations, and once full functionality has been verified, the generation of electric power will be resumed. Following this, the facility will be tested and inspected while gradually increasing electrical output.

This process will also include vibration adjustment* of the turbine before and after the resumption of electric power generation in accordance with necessity.

A final inspection of the restored turbine will be carried out after all necessary elements have been confirmed, and it will then be subject to another examination by the government before it is used to generate electricity.

If any abnormalities are detected during the adjustment operations they will be repaired in accordance with necessity. The outcome of this may result in the nuclear reactor being halted.

*Turbine vibration adjustments consist of halting the turbine and nuclear reactor and adding weights to the turbine in order to adjust all slight discrepancies in balance on the turbine's rotary assembly and suppress vibrations in the axis.

As the low-pressure turbine will be operated with the vanes on the 12th stage removed owing to the installation of the pressure plate, the turbine vibration will be adjusted before and after the resumption of electric power generation in accordance with necessity as part of the adjustment operations.
