Commencement of Adjustment Operations on Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactor No. 5

February 8, 2007
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

The No.5 reactor at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (advanced boiling water reactor: rated electrical output 1.38 million kW) was started up today at 12:30 pm and adjustment operations have commenced.

From now on, test operations will be carried out on the turbine with steam from the nuclear reactor, and once full functionality has been verified, the generation of electric power will resume.

Following this, the facility will be tested and inspected while the electrical output is gradually increased.

Vibration adjustment* of the turbine will be carried out accordingly, before and after the resumption of electric power generation, if necessary.

* Turbine vibration adjustments consist of halting the turbine and nuclear reactor and adding weights to the turbine, to adjust all slight balance discrepancies in the turbine's rotary assembly and suppress vibrations in the axis.

As the low-pressure turbine will be operated with the vanes on the 12th stage removed, owing to the installation of the pressure plate, the turbine vibration will be adjusted accordingly, before and after the resumption of electric power generation, if necessary, as part of the adjustment operations.
