Commencement of Electric Power Generation on Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactor No. 5
February 11, 2007
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
The No.5 reactor at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (advanced boiling water reactor: rated electrical output 1.38 million kW) started up at 12:30 pm on February 8 and adjustment operations have commenced.
(announced February 8, 2007.)
This is to provide notification of the fact that the turbine was started up at 11:00 pm on February 10, and the generation of electric power has resumed as of 2:41 am today.
Electric power generation will temporarily be suspended to implement vibration adjustments in the event the turbine is deemed in need of vibration adjustment. Electric power generation will resume after the adjustments have been completed.
Facility maintenance and inspections will be carried out while increasing electrical output, once power generation has resumed. A final inspection will then be carried out by government authorities on the restored turbine, prior to actually supplying electric power, once the results of the initial inspections have been confirmed.
* Turbine vibration adjustments consist of halting the turbine and nuclear reactor and adding weights to the turbine, to adjust all slight balance discrepancies in the turbine's rotary assembly and suppress vibrations in the axis.
As the low-pressure turbine will be operated with the vanes on the 12th stage removed, owing to the installation of the pressure plate, the turbine vibration will be adjusted accordingly, before and after the resumption of electric power generation, if necessary, as part of the adjustment operations.
