Press Release Back Number(2007)

Commencement of Adjustment Operation on Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactor No. 5

February 20, 2007
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

The No.5 reactor at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (advanced boiling water reactor: rated electrical output 1,380MW) (*1) was shut down on February 17 to replace the gasket (*3) on the flange of extraction steam check valve No.1 (*2). This work has now been completed and the reactor started up again at 10:49 pm yesterday. Adjustment operations are currently being carried out.

The reactor pressure will gradually be increased, after which electric power generation is scheduled to be resumed.

*1: Rated electrical output is approximately 1,300MW under regulated operations with constant rated heat output using pressure plates.

*2: Extraction steam check valves are installed to prevent the backflow of extracted steam (vapor) when the turbine is tripped.

*3: Extracted steam is vapor supplied to the feed water heater from the high-pressure turbine and low-pressure turbine to improve the heat efficiency of the plant.
