Report Submitted on Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactor No. 3 Seismic Safety Assessment Results as Based on New Seismic Durability Guidelines
February 21, 2007
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
In response to a directive from the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, Chubu Electric is currently conducting seismic safety assessments of reactors at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station as based on new seismic durability guidelines.
Chubu Electric has already summarized and reported to the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency on January 25, 2007 in regards to the establishment of standard ground motion Ss (common to reactors No. 1-5) and the results for Reactor No. 4 as based on standard ground motion Ss.
(This was previously announced on January 25, 2007.)
Continuing from No. 4, Chubu Electric has conducted its assessment of facilities critical to seismic resistance design at standard ground motion Ss at reactor No. 3, confirming that seismic safety has been assured. Today we submitted our report for this reactor to the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency.
We continue assessing the seismic safety of the other reactors as based on the new seismic durability guidelines. The report for No. 5 will be submitted in about June of this year, while that for Nos. 1 and 2 is expected to be submitted in about September 2009.
