Commencement of Service Operations on Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Reactor No. 5
March 13, 2007
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
Restoration work to install a pressure plate was carried out to prevent damage to the turbine blades on Reactor No. 5 at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, and adjustment operations had begun from February 8, 2007, for the purpose of implementing facility maintenance and inspections.
Final governmental pre-service inspections (*1) of the restored turbines, implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, were carried out on the turbines under operational status and successfully completed at 7:20 pm today, resulting in the resumption of service operations.
The Task Force to Address the Issue of Power Demand and Supply (*2), established on July 10, 2006, owing to the suspension of operations on Reactor No.5, has been disbanded as of today.
*1: Pre-service inspections:
When a work plan for electric facilities is approved or an application is submitted, government authorities carry out the pre-service inspections to verify that the approval or application conforms to the details stipulated in the work plan and to technological standards. Electrical facilities that do not pass the pre-service inspections cannot be operated. "Electric facilities" is the generic term for facilities and machinery that supply electric power. Pre-assembly inspections for low-pressure turbines and inspections to confirm operational status have been implemented in the case of Reactor No.5.
*2: The Task Force to Address the Issue of Power Demand and Supply was established to ensure the stable supply of electric power in accordance with supply and demand.
The Task Force this time had implemented all necessary measures, including the resumption of operations of the suspended thermal power plant as part of a long-term plan, and the receipt of electric power from other companies.
