Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station No. 3 (boiling water reactor, rated electric output 1.1 million kW) began its 14th regular inspection on July 21, 2006. As part of this process, plant equipment has been thoroughly checked.
Presently, all equipment checking tasks that are performed while the reactor is shut down, as well as all regular equipment and business inspections, have been completed. Chubu Electric will be starting up the reactor as early as today as soon as preparations are complete and then will begin power adjustments.
During power adjustments, output will be gradually ramped up and equipment inspection and tests will be performed using steam generated by the reactor. Upon finishing these checks, the reactor will undergo one final inspection, the General Load Performance Inspection by the government of Japan.
In the event that any irregularities occur during power adjustments, Chubu Electric will make whatever repairs are necessary. It may be necessary to shut down the reactor again depending on the repair procedures used.
