The Chubu Electric Group, in cooperation with Daido Plant Industries Co., LTD, the offices of Ishibashi Engineering and Chuo Seisakusho, Ltd, has developed a low cost "Secure Power Unit (SPU)" for use with gas generation equipment in industrial furnaces. The SPU is used to avoid lapses in equipment operation due to brownouts and power outages.
To prevent oxidation, the heat treatment of metal parts is carried out in an environment filled with a special mixture of gases. Natural disasters and other unforeseen occurrences can lead to brownouts or temporary power outages and disrupt the operation of gas generation equipment, ruining items undergoing heat treatment and creating large losses for a company.
Through the use of a secondary battery, Chubu Electric Group's newly developed "Secure Power Unit" makes it possible to maintain continuous operation of gas generation equipment during brownouts and power outages of under two minutes. In the event that a power outage lasts for longer than two minutes, the unit can be used in conjunction with an emergency power generator to keep gas generation equipment running.
Chubu Electric Group plans to begin field tests of the SPU in the near future and work towards releasing it as a commercial product.
The "Secure Power Unit" has the following special features:
1. Superior Performance
The SPU was developed specifically for use with gas generation equipment in industrial furnaces. The use of continuous commercial use power supply systems and optimized battery capacity make it possible to produce the SPU at low cost.
2. Uninterrupted Power Supply
High-speed semiconductor switches automatically switch to auxiliary power in less than 2 ms, making uninterruptible power supply a reality.
3. Can Be Used In Conjunction With An Emergency Power Generator To Keep Gas Generation Equipment Running
When used in conjunction with a customer's emergency power generator, uninterrupted, continuous operation of gas generation equipment can be achieved even during long power outages.
1. When there is a brownout -
the SPU provides uninterrupted power switching from a commercial power source to the secondary battery.
2. When there is a short-term power outage -
the SPU provides uninterrupted power switching from a commercial power source to the secondary battery.
3. When there is a long-term power outage -
the SPU provides uninterrupted power switching from the secondary battery to an emergency power generator.
4. When the commercial power source resumes -
the SPU provides uninterrupted power switching from the secondary battery or emergency power generator to a commercial power source.
