Start of operation of the offshore wind power plant project at Akita Port and Noshiro Port in Akita Prefecture

The Chubu Electric Power Company has been working on the first large-scale offshore wind power plant project in Japan on a commercial basis through the special purpose company “Akita Offshore Wind Corporation” (AOW), jointly with Marubeni Corporation, Obayashi Corporation, Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., Cosmo Eco Power Co., Ltd., The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., The Akita Bank, Ltd., Ohmori Co., Ltd., Sawakigumi Co., Ltd., Kyowa Oil Co., Ltd., Kato Construction Co., Ltd., Kanpu Co., Ltd. and Sankyo Co., Ltd.

We completed construction of the Akita Port offshore wind power plant, and started its commercial operation today.

Noshiro Port offshore wind power plant started commercial operation on December 22 last year, and is currently running smoothly. With the start of operation at Akita Port, offshore wind power plants of AOW are now in full commercial operation.

AOW will operate and maintain both power plants for the next 20 years under the operation maintenance structure based at Noshiro Port.

The Chubu Electric Power Group positions renewable energy that contributes to decarbonization and energy self-sufficiency as one of the main power sources. We will continue to actively develop renewable energy to achieve our goal of contributing to the expansion of more than 3.2 million kW through ownership, construction and maintenance by around 2030.
