Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Inc.
DENSO CORPORATION

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (President and Director: Kingo Hayashi; “Chubu Electric Power”), Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Inc. (Representative Director: Shinya Otani; “Chubu Electric Power Miraiz”) and DENSO CORPORATION (President & CEO: Koji Arima; “DENSO”) will start trial introduction of an energy management system (“EMS (Note 2)”) utilizing BEV (Note 1).

(Note 1) Battery Electric Vehicle. Vehicles that run solely on electricity, without gasoline.
(Note 2) Energy Management System. Mechanism that visualizes energy usage status with information communication technology and efficiently controls equipment.

Chubu Electric Power Miraiz will install solar power generation facilities at shops such as bookstores and cafés at Karuizawa Commongrounds (Note 3) and in the neighboring residential area and introduce BEV that has charging and discharging functions, jointly with Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd.

This BEV is intended to be used as a car-sharing vehicle for community users and a storage battery that charges and discharges renewable energy in line with supply and demand of electricity in the community.

Chubu Electric Power, Chubu Electric Power Miraiz and DENSO will maximize the energy management effect of BEV as a storage battery without sacrificing the convenience of car sharing, and introduce EMS for sharing renewable energy in the community on a trial basis and improve its operation.

(Note 3) CCC’s community facility that proposes the future lifestyle of Karuizawa and fosters community interaction, to be opened in Naka-Karuizawa on March 1. The facility will be provided with high-voltage bulk power receiving service by Chubu Electric Power Miraiz.

The three companies will aim for further introduction of renewable energy using BEV which is expected to expand, and contribute to realizing a carbon-neutral society by proposing new values to the society and users using the operation results at Karuizawa Commongrounds.

Overview of trial introduction

1 Location 1690-1 Nagakura-Toriihara, Karuizawa-machi, Kitasaku-gun, Nagano

2 Description

Aim for environmental improvement through optimal BEV charging/discharging and air conditioning operation based on electricity demand forecast, solar power generation forecast, SOC (Note) forecast of BEV, and car sharing reservation information, using AI technology

(1) SOC control for both car sharing and EMS

(2) Electricity peak cut control based on BEV and air conditioning characteristics

(3) Local production and consumption maximization control by storing surplus solar-powered electricity to BEV (SOC control based on car sharing reservation information)

(Note) State Of Charge. Indicator of charge rate and charged condition.

  • EMS is subject to controlling BEV and air conditioning of bookstores, cafés and other shops in the community.
  • Optimal operation for both car sharing and EMS in the community area will be verified by connecting EMS provided by Chubu Electric Power, EMS of BEV provided by DENSO and car sharing reservation management system provided by Chubu Electric Power Miraiz.
