Launch of a frailty detection service “e Frail Navi” for municipalities

April 04, 2023
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Today, Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. ("Chubu Electric Power") launched a frailty detection service “e Frail Navi” for municipalities, the first of its kind in Japan, that uses electricity usage data from electricity smart meters (“electricity data”).

As the population ages and increasing health care costs and nursing care benefit costs become a society-wide concern, municipalities need to quickly and efficiently identify frailty and intervene appropriately with limited staff.

To solve these municipal challenges, Chubu Electric Power has been working together with municipalities to detect frailty early on using electricity data.

In 2020, the development of an AI that can detect frailty based on electricity data was started in Toin-cho, Mie, and in 2022, a demonstration test of a frailty detection service was conducted in Matsumoto-shi, Nagano.

Having proven that this program can detect frailty in the older population early and is effective in preventing nursing care, we will be launching a frailty detection service for municipalities in Toin-cho, Mie and Matsumoto-shi, Nagano.

We hope to expand the service to municipalities across Japan going forward.

To deliver new forms of value that customers and communities seek, Chubu Electric Power will challenge ourselves in reforming our business model to provide services that solve societal issues and meet the needs of our customers.
