Concerning reporting of CO2Emissions Intensity (FY2010) in Accordance with the Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures

August 01, 2011
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. has reported its CO2 emissions intensity (CO2 emissions against volume of power used) for FY2010 to the government in accordance with the Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures.

Our CO2 emissions intensity for FY2010 following use of Kyoto Mechanism credits, etc. was 0.341kg-CO2/kWh*, a reduction of 26.6% against figures for FY1990.

We are working towards the achievement of a target of a 20% reduction in average CO2 emissions intensity against figures for FY1990 over the five years of the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (FY2008-FY2012).

Based on a request from the vgovernment, we have shut down the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, which places us in a difficult position in terms of the achievement of our target. We will work our hardest on both the supply and demand fronts.

*This figure represents emissions intensity after deduction of Kyoto Mechanism credits, etc. from actual CO2 emissions in accordance with the Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures (CO2 emissions intensity following adjustment). The figure prior to these deductions (actual CO2 emissions intensity) was 0.473kg-CO2/kWh.
The figure reported to the government is a provisional figure. Figures for CO2 emissions intensity for individual electric utilities based on the System for Calculation, Reporting, and Announcement of Emissions of Greenhouse Gases will be separately published by the government.
