Commission Received for Survey to Confirm and Collect Information on the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP)

August 27, 2015
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Chubu Electric Power has today been commissioned by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to conduct a survey intended to confirm and collect information on the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP).

This project aims to consider a highly beneficial electric power infrastructure development plan that harnesses the technologies of Japanese companies by collecting, analyzing, and organizing information on power development plans, which southern African countries and relevant organizations are establishing or performing, and will last about 12 months from August 2015 to July 2016.

Southern Africa has a wide-range of issues that remain unsolved. For instance, some of its countries are not fully leveraging the abundance of energy resources that it possesses, while in contrast, the region's largest electric power-demanding country, the Republic of South Africa, is subject to planned power outages that result from electric power shortage.

Countries in the region and its relevant organizations are working to develop infrastructure by establishing an electric power development and investment plan, but this undertaking has not seen progress given the lack of financing and other particulars.

Chubu Electric Power will engage in the commissioned project by drawing on the knowledge, experience, and technology in the electric business that we fostered thus far.

With overseas consulting projects, Chubu Electric Power will continue to contribute toward the development and expansion of electricity businesses in foreign countries, with an emphasis on Asian, African and other developing countries.
