The Grid Data Bank Laboratory LLP (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Executive Officer: Mino Haruki, hereinafter "Grid Data Bank Lab") was established by TEPCO Power Grid, Incorporated (Headquarters; Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Sadanori Kaneko; hereinafter, "TEPCO PG") and NTT Data Corporation (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President; Yo Honma; hereinafter "NTT Data") to solve society's issues and create new value using data. (announced on November 07, 2018)

The Grid Data Bank Lab has grown since its establishment - new members have joined and a new office that also serves as a lab (hereinafter, lab) has been established as a co-creating space.

1. Joining of new members

Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka-shi, Osaka; President & Director; Shigeki Iwane; hereinafter, "Kansai Electric Power") and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc (Headquarters: Higashi-ku, Nagoya-shi, Aichi ; President & Director: Satoru Katsuno; hereinafter, "Chubu Electric Power") will be investing 150 million yen each into Grid Data Bank Lab and participating in activities as new members.

2.On the establishment of the lab

Grid Data Bank Lab has created an environment that spurs innovation as its lab in Chiyoda-ku Tokyo to prompt initiatives to better use electrical data. This lab has increased security to provide an open environment for co-creation and encourage design thinking and ideathons. The energy consumption data used in the lab has been statistically processed by the transmission and distribution operators to an extent where identification of individuals is not possible and will only be handled in locked rooms only accessible by specific members.

Through this lab, Grid Data Bank Lab will seek out a wide variety of participants (data owners, end users, startup ventures and service providers) and support projects from start to finish, from generating ideas, planning demonstrations to promoting projects.

[Services provided in the lab]

Showroom (Discovery)
By demoing energy consumption data use and hosting various presentations and seminars, the lab will provide opportunities for people to create new value using energy consumption data and data from other industries.

Market Place (Exchange)
The lab will serve as a place to meet and exchange information and ideas, matching up companies and providing opportunities for them to interact.

Incubation Support (Co-creation)
By hosting ideathons and hackathons, the lab will encourage the incubation of new services and solutions through collaboration between energy consumption data and data from other industries.

Business Design (Demonstration)
The lab will support the process of demonstration from prototyping to the planning and promotion of the demonstration. It will also support the reformation of the participating companies' business processes and the implementation of new ideas.
