November 2025 Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan Press Conference with President Hayashi
November 14, 2025
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
- Today, I will discuss our "Global Business Initiatives."
Global Business Initiatives Policy
- In the "Chubu Electric Power Group Management Vision 2.0" announced in November 2021, our Group set the goal of expanding consolidated recurring profit to over 250 billion yen by 2030. Furthermore, we aim to achieve a 1:1 ratio between global business and new growth areas, and domestic energy business within that consolidated recurring profit.
- To achieve this management goal, we plan to make strategic investments of approximately ¥400 billion in our global business between fiscal 2021 and fiscal 2030.
- In developing our global business, we are targeting businesses that contribute to decarbonization and are forming an optimal portfolio by combining four segments:
- "Green" areas such as renewable energy development
- "Blue" areas such as CCUS
- "Retail, transmission, distribution, and new services" areas such as microgrids and power transmission and distribution businesses
- "Frontier" areas such as small reactors
- Today, we will introduce representative projects from each segment that have seen recent movement.
Green Sector: Uzbekistan Renewable Energy Development Project
- Since last month, we have been participating in a project in Uzbekistan to develop a solar power plant and large-scale energy storage facility, together with ACWA, the largest power producer in the Middle East, among others.
- Uzbekistan faces the challenges of ensuring a stable power supply and reducing its dependence on natural gas. It has set a target of increasing the share of renewable energy in its power generation to 54% by 2030.
- The solar power plant to be developed in this project will be the largest in Uzbekistan, with a total capacity of 1 million kW, accounting for approximately 5% of the country's total power generation capacity.
- Construction is scheduled to begin this year, with commercial operation targeted to start in 2027 or later.
Blue Area: Nagoya Port CCUS Project
- We aim to commence commercial operation of a CCUS project targeting power plants and steel mills located around Nagoya Port in the early 2030s.
- As an industrial hub, Nagoya Port handles the largest cargo volume in Japan and accounts for approximately 3% of the country's CO2 emissions.
- To realize this project, we began joint studies and investigations with bp in 2023, followed by discussions with Santos and INPEX on building the CCS value chain.
Retail, Transmission & Distribution, New Services: India Mini-Grid Business
- Since 2022, we have invested in OMC, which operates mini-grid businesses combining clean power, primarily solar, with storage batteries in parts of India with vulnerable power supply.
- In November 2024, we conducted a capital increase to support OMC's business expansion and efficient operations, expanding the number of mini-grid sites to approximately 500.
- Recently, in addition to the mini-grid business, we are also focusing on expanding rooftop solar projects, installing solar power generation equipment on the roofs of public facilities such as hospitals and universities.
- Going forward, we aim to expand our solar power generation capacity from under 10,000 kW at the time of investment to approximately 500,000 kW by the 2030s.
Frontier Area: U.S. Small Modular Reactor Development Project
- Since November 2024, our company has invested in NuScale, which is developing small modular reactors (SMRs), one of the next-generation innovative reactors.
- The small modular reactor being developed by NuScale is the only one to have received design certification from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, making it the top runner in small reactor development in the United States.
- Furthermore, in the immediate future, development plans are progressing in Tennessee, USA, for a nuclear power plant with a capacity of up to 6 million kW, utilizing the small modular reactor developed by NuScale.
Summary
- We aim to strengthen and expand our revenue base by leveraging the insights gained through these global ventures, combined with the technological capabilities, trusted relationships, and broad business reach cultivated through our domestic operations, to expand our business in Japan and other countries.
- We will contribute to global decarbonization by accelerating strategic investments and expanding our investments in businesses that contribute to decarbonization more than ever before.
- This ends my presentation.
