Key Point of President's Regular Press Conference
November 2024 Regular Press Conference : President Hayashi's Message
November 26, 2024
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.
- I will be discussing the following matters today:
- Organizational Revision Effective April 01, 2025
- Telemetering Business Initiatives
- Electricity demand and supply for this winter
Organizational Revision Effective April 01, 2025
- First, I would like to discuss the organizational revision effective April 1, 2025.
- There are three key points of organizational revision.
- The first point is the establishment of the Real Estate Business Division.
- To realize the Chubu Electric Power Group Management Vision 2.0, the Company is expanding its business domain into new growth areas and reforming its business model in addition to its core energy business.
- In order to accelerate the further expansion of the real estate business, which is an important new growth area, the Real Estate Business Division will be established to consolidate and strengthen functions such as planning and development of community building, collaboration with group companies, and effective utilization of assets owned by Chubu Electric Power, in cooperation with Chuden Real Estate and ES-CON JAPAN, as a unified group.
- Through this change, we will strive to enhance our corporate value and achieve sustainable growth in the region through community building that adds a variety of value, such as comfort and convenience, based on our energy services.
- The second point is the establishment of the Offshore Wind Power Department in the Renewable Energy Company.
- In the Chubu Electric Power Group Management Vision 2.0, we have set a goal of "contributing to the expansion over 3.2 million kW through ownership, construction, and maintenance of renewable energy plants by around 2030," and the entire group is working together to develop renewable energy sources.
- The Offshore Wind Power Department will be established to accelerate the decision-making process and expand the number of personnel involved in the development of offshore wind power generation to further promote the development.
- The third point is the reorganization of indirect management structure.
- Since the spin-off in April 2020, the Company has been working to improve the efficiency of indirect management functions by consolidating similar functions at headquarters, and to reduce costs as well as maintain and improve quality by consolidating common operations.
- In order to further increase efficiency and improve the quality of operations, the Company will reorganize itself into a divisional structure directly under the President, specializing and concentrating on each function.
Telemetering Business Initiatives
- Next, I would like to discuss our telemetering business initiatives.
- In order to realize Management Vision 2.0, the Group aims to create new value through the delivery of services that enrich customers' lives and contribute to solving issues and the revitalization of local communities.
- Under these circumstances, in April 2021, we began offering telemetering services for automatic meter reading of gas and water, utilizing the electric power smart meter communication network owned by Chubu Electric Power Grid.
- Subsequently, in February 2023, Chuden Telemetering LLC was established as a company dedicated to telemetering services, and efforts are underway.
- A key feature of the telemetering service provided by Chuden Telemetering LLC is its high communication quality, which is achieved by utilizing the electric power smart meter communication network, as well as stability and safety through security measures and backup functions, and economic efficiency through shared use of communication infrastructure.
- Chuden Telemetering LLC is steadily increasing orders, mainly from LPG companies, by providing a set of the electricity smart meter communication network, as mentioned earlier, together with communication terminals and cloud services.
- On November 20, the number of subscriptions for telecommunication line services reached 300,000.
- Similarly, in the water service business, we provide services to 31 municipalities, or nearly 20% of the water service providers in the Chubu area, and we intend to further expand our services in the future.
- Chubu Electric Power and Chuden Telemetering LLC are considering future business development from two perspectives.
- The first is Contracts for Customer Relationship & Equipment Management Systems and Water Supply BPO.
- We will work on the integrated provision of infrastructure by adding customer relationship & equipment management systems, which are the core systems for gas and water utilities, to our existing services, and in the future, we aim to be entrusted with the entire water service business.
- The second is Value Creation through Utilization of Data.
- We are engaged in demonstrations and research with local governments and universities in areas such as LPG residual volume prediction, delivery optimization, and asset management of water supply facilities for businesses, as well as monitoring of single persons and detection of frail elderly for individual customers.
- In addition, in the medical field, we are participating in a study by the Nagoya Institute of Technology to notify medical institutions of operational data from devices such as phlegm aspirators, which are loaned by hospitals to patients for home medical care, via an electricity smart meter communication network. We intend to further deepen this study in the future.
- Through these and other initiatives, we will continue to create and deliver new value to society by solving social issues, with the goal of "realizing of a safe, secure and resilient society where people can live comfortably" as stated in our Management Vision 2.0.
Electricity demand and supply for this winter
- Lastly, I would like to talk about the electricity power supply and demand this winter.
- The supply-demand balance for electricity in the Chubu area this winter is expected to be 11.3% even in January, when the supply reserve ratio is at its lowest, ensuring the minimum 3% required for a stable supply of electricity.
- On the other hand, it is necessary to keep a close watch on the increase in electricity demand due to lower temperatures, the decrease in supply capacity due to equipment trouble at large-scale power stations, and trends in fuel procurement due to tensions in the international situation.
- As for supply-side efforts, the Group will take all possible measures to ensure a stable supply in the Chubu area by ensuring the operation and maintenance of power plants, transmission and substation facilities, frequency conversion stations, and other facilities to prevent any reduction in supply capacity due to equipment trouble.
- For demand-side response, Chubu Electric Power Miraiz is developing a demand response service called NACHARGE for residential customers.
- This service offers customers reward points based on the value of their cooperation for changing their electricity usage time, for example, by doing household chores such as cleaning and laundry in batches during times of high electricity generation and conserving electricity during times of tight electricity supply and demand.
- For this winter, we are considering various programs that will lead to more efficient use of electricity by our customers, such as a campaign utilizing NACHARGE. Announcement will be made as soon as it is ready.
- We hope that our customers will take advantage of these campaigns and cooperate in the efficient use of energy in a reasonable way.
- This ends my presentation.
