Key Point of President's Regular Press Conference

September 2023 Regular Press Conference : President Hayashi's Message

September 06, 2023
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

I will be discussing the following matters today:

  • Continuation and expansion of measures to reduce the burdens on electricity rates, etc.

Continuation and expansion of measures to reduce the burdens on electricity rates, etc.

  • The Chubu Electric Power Group is implementing measures to reduce the burdens on electricity rates, etc. totaling approximately 66 billion yen, including discounts on electricity rates from June to October for all customers of special high-voltage and high-voltage in the Chubu area.
  • Although the future business environment for the Group remains uncertain, we have decided today to continue and expand the measures to reduce the burdens on electricity rates, etc. to a total amount of 63 billion yen, which is almost the same level as the previous period. This decision was made in light of factors such as recent fuel prices, which have remained lower than when reviewing the standard rate menu, and management efforts being made throughout the Group.
  • The total amount of burden reduction measures for FY2023 is expected to be about 130 billion yen.

Measure to reduce the burden for special high-voltage and high-voltage customers (continued)

  • First, I would like to talk about the burden reduction measure for special high-voltage and high-voltage customers.
  • Currently, we are implementing a measure to reduce the burden of electricity rates for all customers of special high-voltage and high-voltage in the Chubu area. Continuing this measure of electricity rates, we will offer a discount of 2.09 yen per kWh from November to March, which is the same amount as the previous period, based on the adjusted unit price for fuel costs.
  • Although the discount rate is subject to change depending on future fuel prices and wholesale electricity market prices, this discount will reduce the burden on customers by approximately 6.4% to 8.8% during the applicable period, as estimated on a model case basis.
  • This burden reduction measure for special high-voltage and high-voltage is expected to total 58 billion yen.

Measures to reduce the burden for low-voltage customers (expansion)

  • Next, I will explain the measures to reduce the burden for low-voltage customers.
  • We would like to expand measures to reduce the burden not only on special high-voltage and high-voltage customers, but also on low-voltage customers, as the situation continues to cause a burden on these customers.
  • The first measure is about an electricity rate discount for customers in households with children or elderly family members.
  • In order to ensure that households with children and elderly family members can use heating and other electrical appliances with less anxiety during the winter months when electricity consumption is higher, we will offer a new 10% discount on electricity rates for the two months of January and February 2024.
  • The discount amounts will vary depending on the customer's rate plan and usage conditions, but based on a model case, this discount will reduce the customer's payment by 1,886 yen in total for the two months.
  • The second is about campaigns that help customers save electricity and conserve energy, and that lead to decarbonization.
  • In the previous campaign, eligible customers received a gift card worth 10,000 yen, who had replaced their air conditioners and refrigerators, which consume a large amount of electricity in their homes, with new equipment with high energy-saving performance.
  • To the campaign this year, we have newly added water heaters, so that customers who replace their old water heaters with high energy-saving ones will receive a gift card worth 30,000 yen.
  • In addition, we would like to continue to implement the previous campaign for promoting the generation and effective use of renewable energy, offering gift cards worth 50,000 yen to customers who install solar power generation equipment or storage batteries through "KatEne Lease".
  • Through the campaigns for introduction of solar power generation equipment and storage batteries as well as replacement of energy-saving equipment, we will support our customers in saving electricity and conserving energy to reduce the burden of electricity rates, and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.
  • Details on how to apply for these campaigns will be announced by the end of October.
  • Along with these campaigns, we will continue to consider other campaigns to support family life and customers' new lives.
  • The total amount of these measures to reduce burden for low-voltage customers is expected to be approximately 5 billion yen, which is about 2 billion yen more than the total of the previous measures of 3 billion yen.

Initiatives to save electricity this winter

  • Finally, we consider continuously implementing initiatives for saving electricity this winter, such as discounting electricity rates based on the amount of electricity saved, and awarding KatEne points.
Further details will be announced as soon as available.

  • The Group will continue to do its utmost to contribute to the sustainable development of communities and society together with its customers, not only by ensuring the stable delivery of electricity, but also by further improving management efficiency as well as developing and providing attractive services that meet customers' needs.
