Key Point of President's Regular Press Conference

March 2025 Regular Press Conference : President Hayashi's Message

March 24, 2025
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

I would like to begin by saying a few words about the power outage that occurred last week from March 19 to 21.
During this period, snow damage and other factors caused power outages in parts of Aichi, Gifu, Nagano, and Shizuoka prefectures that lasted to approximately 52 hours and affected up to 15,000 customers' residences.
We sincerely apologize to our many customers for any discomfort and inconvenience caused over the long period of time.
Chubu Electric Power Group will continue to work with the national and local governments to ensure early recovery in the event of a disaster.

I will be discussing the following matters today:

  • Conclusion of Agreement on Mutual Cooperation in Disaster with the Fourth Regional Coast Guard Headquarters
  • Recruitment Plan for FY2026
  • Electricity Supply and Demand of this Winter

Conclusion of Agreement on Mutual Cooperation in Disaster with the Fourth Regional Coast Guard Headquarters

  • First of all, I would like to talk about the agreement with the Fourth Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (“4th Regional CG HQ”) regarding mutual cooperation in the event of disasters.
  • In recent years, the importance of a stable energy supply has been growing as natural disasters have become more severe and the Nankai Megathrust Earthquake is expected to occur.
  • In preparation for large-scale disasters, the Group has been working to maintain and improve its response capabilities through training, as well as forming disaster-resistant facilities and appropriate maintenance and preservation measures.
  • Moreover, the Group has been building mutual cooperative relationships with external organizations such as local governments, Japan Self-Defense Forces, and commercial facilities to strengthen the system for prompt disaster recovery.
  • As part of these efforts, today Chubu Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power Grid concluded an agreement with 4th Regional CG HQ regarding mutual cooperation in the event of disasters.
  • The agreement stipulates that 4th Regional CG HQ will operate to restore power in areas isolated by disaster, such as peninsulas and remote islands, by transporting personnel and equipment with using patrol boats.
  • The agreement also stipulates cooperation from Chubu Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power Grid, including the supply of power to 4th Regional CG HQ's base of operations and other facilities, as well as the provision of the Group's facilities and grounds.
  • We believe that this agreement will be very meaningful for the relief and recovery efforts in the affected areas, as it will enable both parties to respond to disasters quickly and smoothly.
  • In order to make this agreement more effective, we will deepen our cooperation with 4th Regional CG HQ through peacetime drills and other measures.
  • The Group will continue its efforts to ensure the stable delivery of electricity to customers by making constant efforts to deepen both hardware and software measures on a daily basis to prepare for earthquakes and other massive disasters.

Recruitment Plan for FY2026

  • Now, I would like to talk about the recruitment plans for FY2026.
  • The recruitment plan for the three Chubu Electric Power companies for FY2026 has been decided to be 715, including both regular and career hires.
  • This plan results in an increase of 55 persons from the previous year's plan.
  • Regarding regular hires, we planned to hire 495, an increase of 50 over the previous year, from the viewpoint of securing personnel over the medium to long term.
  • We also plan to hire 220 career hires, an increase of 5 from the previous year.
  • While we seek a wide range of human resources for career hires, we place emphasis on securing human resources with the ability to work immediately to expand our renewable energy business, including offshore wind power, and to play an active role in new growth areas such as the promotion of digital transformation (DX).
  • Furthermore, we intend to secure human resources that will contribute to the strengthening of our business foundation, such as efforts to restart Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station and to enhance the sales force of Chubu Electric Power Miraiz.
  • We will leverage the respective characteristics of regular and career hires, and hire the human resources needed for the growth and transformation of the Group in a continuous and timely manner, thereby promoting our human resources strategy and achieving sustainable growth.

Electricity Supply and Demand of this Winter

  • In terms of electricity supply and demand this winter, we were able to maintain the reserve ratio of 3%, which is the minimum required for a stable supply, and deliver electricity in a stable manner, mainly because we were able to secure the necessary supply capacity through the reliable operation and maintenance of power generation facilities.
  • We would like to take this opportunity to thank our residential and business customers in the Chubu area for their cooperation in the efficient energy use within a reasonable range.
  • On January 10, electricity demand in the Chubu area recorded the largest single point of power this winter, 23.71 million kW.
  • This was mainly due to a temporary strong cold wave that brought accumulation of snow even on the flat areas, which in turn caused a concentration of the use of heating equipment; however, the wide-area reserve ratio secured approximately 9.3%.
  • The electricity supply and demand for the summer and winter of the next fiscal year has been presented at a recent meeting of the Organization for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators, JAPAN
  • Even if the weather conditions become the most severe over the past 10 years, we currently expect to be able to deliver electricity stably in January, when the wide-area reserve ratio, including the Chubu area, is at its lowest, at 5.4%.
  • The Group will continue to take all possible measures to ensure a stable supply of electricity by ensuring the operation and maintenance of power plants, transmission and substation facilities, frequency conversion stations, and other facilities to prevent any reduction in supply capacity due to equipment trouble, and by providing customers with services that enable them to use electricity efficiently.
  • This ends my presentation.
