  • I am Toshio Mita, Chairman of Chubu Electric Power Co., Ltd.
  • Today I would like to discuss our 87th General Meeting of Shareholders.

General Meeting of Shareholders

  • I would like to report that the General Meeting of Shareholders was concluded today without incident.
  • This year's General Meeting was the longest in our company's history, lasting 3 hours and 40 minutes. It was also the largest, with 2,688 shareholders attending to hear our report on the business circumstances of Chubu Electric Power in FY 2010.
  • A total of eleven resolutions were presented, five by the Company and six by shareholders. After deliberation, the five resolutions proposed by the Company were approved by a majority of shareholders.
  • Our shareholders asked questions concerning the safety of nuclear power, and also concerning issues that are important to our operation in an extremely severe business environment, such as the decision to shut down the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station and our thinking regarding future returns to shareholders, and we responded to these questions in a spirit of sincerity.
  • For an electric utility, the confidence of its customers and society in general is the cornerstone of its operations. Chubu Electric will continue in future to consider the valuable opinions of its customers, shareholders and investors in its operations, fulfilling its mission for the public good - providing the energy essential for our lifestyles and contributing to the development of society.
  • At the same time, as a strong corporate group able to respond flexibly and precisely to changes in the energy market, we will act in accordance with the trust and the expectations of a diverse range of individuals, from our customers and the people of our region to our shareholders, investors, and business partners.

Introduction of New Directors and Statutory Auditors

  • I would now like to introduce one new Representative Director, four new Directors and one new Statutory Auditor.
  • The new Representative Director, Directors and Statutory Auditor were approved at today's General Meeting of Shareholders, and their duties were decided on at the meetings of the Board of Directors and Board of Auditors that followed.
  • First, I would like to introduce our new Representative Director, Tomohiko Ohno.
    Mr. Ohno is scheduled to be named as Executive Vice President and appointed General Manager of the Secretarial Department, the Corporate Communication Department, the Personnel Department, the Human Resources Development Center and the Group Business Development Department.
  • Next are the new Directors, Atsushi Ishida, Yoshinori Masuda, Hiromi Yamazaki, and Yutaka Watanabe.
    Mr. Ishida is scheduled to be named Senior Managing Executive Officer and appointed General Manager of the Research and Development Division as of July 1st.
  • Mr. Masuda is scheduled to be named Senior Managing Executive Officer and appointed General Manager of the Gas Sales & Service Department and Deputy General Manager of the Business Strategy Headquarters as of July 1st.
  • Mr. Yamazaki is scheduled to be named Senior Managing Executive Officer and appointed General Manager of the Environmental Affairs & Plant Siting Division and the Nuclear Facilities Headquarters as of July 1st.
  • Mr. Watanabe is scheduled to be named Senior Managing Executive Officer and appointed General Manager of the Customer Service Division as of July 1st.
  • Finally, I would like to introduce our new Statutory Auditor, Masato Harada.
  • We continue to face an extremely severe business environment, with the shutdown of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station only one example. Under our new system, we will actively take on the various management challenges that face us, responding with the total power of the Chubu Electric Group.
  • That concludes my remarks for today.
