Regular Press Conference for April 2012: President Mizuno’s Message

April 27, 2012
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

  • I will be discussing
  • Appointments of Personnel to the Executive Body
  • The business environment in which we find ourselves is unprecedentedly severe, both at present and into the future.
  • Against this background, we have established Three Important Initiatives, and we are focusing all our efforts on their implementation. These are “Initiatives towards further increasing the safety of Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station,” “Initiatives towards ensuring a stable supply of power,” and “Initiatives towards realizing increased business efficiency.”
  • To enable us to steadily advance these initiatives in this unprecedentedly severe business environment, we believe that we must maximally exploit the ability, knowledge and experience of executive staff possessing rich practical experience, and work together as one in fulfilling our duties.
  • In particular, to enable us to make steady progress in implementing initiatives at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, we will maintain our nuclear-related executive structure unchanged.
  • If you will allow me to reiterate, we are focusing our full efforts on initiatives to further increase the safety of Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, including the positioning of anti-tsunami walls, seeking to make it the world’s safest and most stable nuclear facility.
  • Once again, in appointing executive staff and heads of departments, we are actively selecting younger individuals who have extensive experience of practical duties.
  • We will be conducting a partial structural reorganization on July 1. I will discuss the main points.
  • The first is that we will change the name of the Sales Department to the Customer Department.
  • Taking the current business environment into consideration, the department will be adopting a more intensively customer-oriented posture in its capacity as the section responsible for contact with our customers.
  • The second change is a reorganization of our Personnel Department.
  • Fostering human resources is always the most important management agenda. It is extremely important that we pass on, through the years, qualities including a level of technological prowess and knowledge that will contribute to the stable supply of power, and a sense of mission in relation to the job.
  • We are therefore integrating the Personnel Department and our Human Resources Development Center, our training organization, in order to further enhance our ability to foster human resources. We are seeking to realize more effective development of human resources by increasing the consistency of hiring, allocation, and training, and continuously implementing the PDCA cycle in the area of human resources.
  • The environment in which Chubu Electric and power utilities more generally find themselves has changed significantly since the earthquake and tsunami disaster, but there has been no change in our mission, to ensure a stable supply of safe and low-cost energy to our customers.
  • Our new executive personnel will work together as one in order to confront the various issues facing our company. We look forward to your continuing support.
  • That is all for me.
