Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Higashi-ku, Nagoya; President Kingo Hayashi; "Chubu Electric Power") and Ogaki Gas Co., Ltd. (Ogaki City, Gifu; President Motohisa Ueda; "Ogaki Gas") have signed a basic agreement ("the agreement") today after reaching consensus on the introduction of automatic gas meter reading service to Ogaki Gas, using Chubu Electric Power's smart meter communications network.

In some of its service-providing areas, Ogaki Gas has thus far been using phone lines to not only remotely acquire data about remaining gas amounts, information of gas leak and other alarm signals, and LPG consumption, but also to remotely shut down and restart LPG meters. Under the agreement, Ogaki Gas will install wireless LPG meters in Ogaki City, Gifu, and other areas starting from FY2021 to read them automatically with Chubu Electric Power's smart meter communications network, and to thereby achieve better customer service.

Chubu Electric Power will continue to help LPG, city gas and water service operators adopt automatic meter reading, using its smart meter communications network, as part of the community support infrastructure business designed to contribute to resolving social issues.
