Tahara Biomass Power LLC ("the project company"), a joint venture of JFE Engineering Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hajime Oshita; "JFE Engineering"), Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Head Office: Higashi-ku, Nagoya; President & Director: Kingo Hayashi; "Chubu Electric Power"), Toho Gas Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Atsuta-ku, Nagoya; Representative Director & President: Nobuyuki Masuda; "Toho Gas") and Tokyo Century Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Koichi Baba; "Tokyo Century"), today has started construction on Tahara Biomass Power Plant (“the power plant”).

The power plant is the woody biomass power plant with the largest power output of 112,000 kW in Japan. It will be constructed in Tahara, Aichi Prefecture and is scheduled to start operation in September 2025.

Biomass power generation is a renewable energy source, whose output is easily adjusted and capable of stably producing power, so the investing companies have been actively developing it to serve as a core power source. This project will contribute to realizing a carbon neutral and sustainable society.

Together with the understanding and cooperation of the local community and other stakeholders, we, all four investors and the project company, will proceed with the construction of the power plant, placing safety as the highest priority.
