Goto Floating Wind Farm LLC (the Consortium) announced today the first of eight floating wind turbine units for the Goto City Offshore Wind Power Generation Project has been completed and loaded onto the semi-submersible spud barge(Note 1) Float Raiser at the pier yard in Fukue Port, Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The floating wind turbine unit is scheduled to depart Fukue Port on Saturday October 8, 2022, en route to a location offshore Kabashima to initiate wind turbine assembly work.

(Note 1) A large barge for loading floating offshore wind turbines built onshore and floating and launching these offshore in a semi-submersible state

Since April 2022, the Consortium has been following the approval procedure for the exclusive use of sea zones, etc., a requirement for the installation of power generation infrastructure. This follows the Consortium being awarded Japan’s first public offering plan certification as an offshore wind power generation facility to be constructed based on the Act of Promoting Utilization of Sea Areas in Development of Power Generation Facilities Using Maritime Renewable Energy Resources.

The Consortium will pursue the construction of a floating offshore wind farm within the designated area, aiming to start commercial operations in January 2024.
