Verification testing of time-based electricity charges using the smart water meter

Verification testing of time-based electricity charges using the smart water meter, being conducted for the first time in Japan, will begin in Kosai City, Shizuoka from October 16, in cooperation with DK Corporation, Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. and Tokyo Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd.

• Background and purpose of the verification testing

  Waterworks business in tune with the times is required in recent years amid decreasing water demand due to low birthrate, aging society and declining population, diversifying lifestyles, and rapidly changing social conditions such as expansion of services due to the rapid development of IoT technology.

  To review new rate burdens based on demand characteristics, Kosai City, DK Corporation, Chubu Electric Power and Tokyo Engineering Consultants will work on the verification testing to study a time-based electricity charge system utilizing water usage data obtained from the smart water meter, that is, an IoT technology.
