Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Today, Panasonic Corporation ("Panasonic") and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (hereinafter "Chubu Electric Power" will launch a demonstration test for establishment of an optimum charging management system for electric vehicles (EV).

In the midst of rapid electrification of automobiles toward a carbon-neutral society, there are more cases where multiple charging facilities are installed at business locations. This is projected to increase economic burden on customers due to increase in basic electricity contract rates resulting from increase in power facilities for recharging and concentration of recharging.

In order to avoid such situation, efficient charging is required taking into account the electricity demand of facilities adopting EVs and operational status of EVs.

This October, Panasonic will start providing "Charge-ment", an EV charging infrastructure solution that controls the charging timing of EVs and avoids its concentration.

Chubu Electric Power will develop an EV charging schedule that combines the facilities' power demand forecast and EV operation plan information, determines the order of priority of the multiple EVs to be charged, and efficiently charges the EV with the necessary amount for operation.

The Demonstration Test will use the demonstration field of Chubu Electric Power's Research & Development Division. By combining the technologies and know-how of the two companies, EV charging will be optimally controlled to reduce power consumption of the entire facility and shift charging to a time frame where electricity rates are lower, aiming to minimize the economic burden coming from increased power facilities associated with adoption of EVs and increase in basic electricity rates.

Technical demonstrations will also be conducted for application to electric power services such as DR (Note 1) and VPP (Note 2) in charging and discharging EV battery.

Through the Demonstration Test, the two companies will aim to realize EV charging service with higher economic values and environmental values to promote proliferation of EVs and contribute to realizing a decarbonized society.

(Note 1) Power demand pattern is changed by having the owner of demand-side energy resources or a third party control such energy resources to adjust the power supply-demand balance.

(Note 2) The same functions of a power station are provided by having the owner of demand-side energy resources as well as power generation facilities and energy storage facilities directly connected to the power grid or a third party control such energy resources.
