Selection as a "Pilot Decarbonization Region"

November 01, 2022
Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc.

Today, Chubu Electric Power was selected in the "2nd Pilot Decarbonization Regions" recruited by the Ministry of Environment for the joint proposal of "urban planning that connects people and communities with a regional microgrid utilizing existing power distribution systems" with Iida City (Mayor: Takeshi Sato).

"Pilot Decarbonization Regions" are regions that aim for virtually zero carbon dioxide emissions by FY2030 according to regional characteristics, in view of carbon neutrality in 2050. The Ministry of Environment plans to select 100 regions from applying regions nationwide.

In the joint proposal, we will develop a regional microgrid (Note 1) using new energy storage facilities and existing power distribution systems with the existing solar power generation facility "Mega Solar Iida" in the Kawaji area, and aim to enhance regional resilience by supplying power to evacuation facilities in the event of an emergency disaster.

We will also use household demand and response service "NACHARGE" (Note 2) of Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Company, Inc. to contribute to mitigating the tight electricity supply-demand balance, and realize a decarbonized society by developing energy saving activities together with the local community.

Chubu Electric Power will challenge "decarbonization" with our customers and the society, and accelerate providing "new shapes of communities" to realize a "secure, safe and resilient society that is easy to live in".

(Note 1) Small-scale power system that supplies power through existing transmission and distribution systems in normal times in the same way as the current power system, but disconnects itself from the transmission and distribution system and independently supplies power from power generation facilities in the area when power supply stops in the event of an emergency disaster.

(Note 2) Service that asks customers to save energy and change time of using electricity (demand response) according to the generation status of renewable energy and supply-demand status of electricity and gives KatEne Points according to the result of their efforts.
