Burn marks on posted notice in Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Units 1 and 2 worker break room (outside radiation controlled area) (Fire)

At approximately 1:25 pm on August 7, 2025, contractor workers confirmed burn marks on a posted notice inside a restroom located in the workers' break room for Units 1 and 2 at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station (outside the radiation controlled area). (No fire alarm sounding, no flames, no smoke, no odor)

Upon confirming burn marks, we provided information to the fire department around 2:20 pm. Following the fire department's on-site inspection, which determined the incident to be a fire, we hereby announce that we determined at 5:20 pm the incident to fall under the notification event "When a fire or other disaster occurs within the power plant premises" as stipulated in the safety agreement (Note 1) with the surrounding municipalities.

We deeply apologize for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused the community.


The timeline of this event is as follows:


Around 1:25pm Burn marks were confirmed on a posting (A4 size) inside the restroom of the workers' break room for Units 1 and 2.

Around 2:20 pm Information was reported to the fire department that burn marks were found.

2:35 pm Fire department arrived at the power station's main gate

3:00 pm Fire department started checking the site.

3:01 pm Fire department determination of fire

3:02 pm Fire department confirmed the fire was extinguished

5:20 pm Determination that the incident falls under the notification requirements based on the safety agreement with municipalities surrounding the power station


This incident did not involve any external radiation impact, and there were no injuries.

We will conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances and causes of the incident and take appropriate action.


(Note 1) This refers to the Agreement on Ensuring the Safety of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station concluded between Shizuoka Prefecture, Omaezaki City, Makinohara City, Kakegawa City, and Kikugawa City and our company, as well as the Agreement on Ensuring the Safety of Municipalities Surrounding the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station concluded between Shizuoka Prefecture, Shimada City, Iwata City, Yaizu City, Fujieda City, Fukuroi City, Yoshida Town, and Mori Town and our company.
