Commencement of Grid Test Facility Operations on R&D Division Premises

September 26, 2025
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

Chubu Electric Power announces that it has completed construction of a grid test facility utilizing actual power distribution equipment and its control system (hereinafter, the "Otaka Grid") on the premises of the company's Research & Development Division (Otaka, Midori-ku, Nagoya), and that the facility commenced operations today.

The Otaka Grid enables various research activities, including testing the autonomous operation (Note 2) of microgrids (Note 1) during power outages or accident conditions, field testing to verify the functionality of prototype equipment for distribution systems, demonstrating new control methods for distribution networks, and verifying energy management utilizing storage batteries, solar power generation, and electric vehicle batteries.

(Note 1) A system that forms a small power grid using distribution lines and other infrastructure within a specific area during prolonged power outages caused by disasters, etc., to deliver electricity from local power generation facilities such as solar power plants to consumers within that area.
(Note 2) A mode of operation where the system is disconnected from the power network and supplies electricity independently within the local area.

Our company positions the Otaka Grid as a place for co-creation and hopes that it will be widely used by our own company, as well as by industry and research institutions.

Chubu Electric Power will utilize the Otaka Grid to address issues in the increasingly complex power network resulting from the expansion of renewable energy adoption, and engage in research for next-generation power systems. Through these efforts, we will contribute not only to maintaining a stable power supply and power quality, but also to enhancing resilience during disasters and maximizing the utilization of renewable energy.
