Regarding Inappropriate Matters Concerning the Establishment of Reference Earthquake Motions in the Compliance Review for the New Regulatory Standards at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station

January 05, 2026
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

Our company is currently undergoing a compliance review for Units 3 and 4 of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station under the new regulatory standards by the Nuclear Regulation Authority.
Since May of last year, we have been responding to an investigation by the Nuclear Regulation Authority concerning our establishment of the reference seismic motion. It has now been confirmed that there is suspicion that the selection of representative waves in the seismic motion evaluation for the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station was conducted using methods different from those explained by our company during the review meetings, or through intentional methods (hereinafter referred to as "this matter").

We view this matter as extremely serious, as it could significantly impact the review process and potentially undermine the trust in our nuclear power business held by stakeholders, including local residents, thereby threatening the very foundation of this business.

Today, our Board of Directors resolved to establish an independent committee composed solely of external experts (hereinafter referred to as the "Third-Party Committee") to investigate the facts and causes of this matter, develop measures to prevent recurrence, and ensure transparency and fairness. We will fully cooperate with the investigation conducted by the Third-Party Committee.
Furthermore, we will respond appropriately based on the instructions and guidance of the regulatory authorities and the Nuclear Regulation Authority.

We sincerely apologize for the occurrence of this incident.
