Launch of demonstration experiment with Toyota City using water smart meter data to explore the feasibility of preventive care

Today, Chubu Electric Power launched a demonstration experiment (hereinafter "this demonstration") with Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture (hereinafter "Toyota City") to utilize water consumption data from smart water meters (hereinafter "water data") for preventive care.

As part of its efforts to prevent the need for nursing care among the elderly and others, Toyota City has been exploring methods to monitor health status in a timely and appropriate manner. Since October 2025, our company and Toyota City have been conducting a demonstration experiment targeting single-person households headed by individuals aged 65 and older. The experiment aims to identify changes in living conditions and other factors using electricity smart meter consumption data (hereinafter "electricity data") to contribute to preventive care.

In this instance, we are also focusing on "water smart meters," for which the introduction is being considered nationwide. We will work together to advance the utilization of water data with an eye toward future widespread adoption, as well as analysis by combining it with the electricity data, and conduct demonstrations aimed at expanding the target households and enhancing the content of the analysis.

Through this demonstration, Chubu Electric Power will explore the potential for utilizing the electricity and water data in preventive care, and aims to offer this as a service that benefits the local community in the future.

Households in Toyota City where water smart meters are installed and who agree to cooperate with this demonstration
(note) Approximately 100 households will be selected, with project representatives providing explanations and confirming their willingness to participate through home visits and other means

3. Role Distribution

Toyota City : Collection and provision of water data (hourly), and examination of its potential use in preventive care projects
Chubu Electric Power : Basic analysis of water data; comparative analysis of water data against household attributes and living conditions; cross-analysis of electricity and water data; and reporting of analysis results
